Annnnnd... done .. ?

Yayy! The site is finally where I wanted it. I’ve got my videos. I’ve got my graphs. I’ve got my content types. I’ve even got my dedication page (still miss you, Penny ❤️).

Obviously if you've had personal projects you endlessly tinker with, “done” might be a little misleading. Always more right? But I’ve reached the state I was aiming for when I started (which, wow, feels like forever ago). At first, I thought a few hours a day would knock it out quick. Instead, the list of tasks stretched out, the further I got, the more there'd be todo. I’d never built a Drupal site completely from scratch before—no base theme, no boilerplate, just me. I’m on a weird non-standard host, I rolled my own hybrid frontend with Twig and React, hacked together my own SCSS framework… and each task I finished seemed to not get me very much further because there were usually more tasks hiding right behind it.

But after the long grind, it’s looking like the site I pictured. Sure, there’s always more to do. Elastic Beanstalk (my very cheap $4/month hosting solution) sometimes goes down and getting it back up and back to where I want it isn't automatic. I could look into that. There’s also more content I could add—like pages for my other guinea pigs—or other add-ons like analytics, a sitemap, and maybe some social media integration. For some reason, images within posts aren't popping up full size on the production site when clicked on (I'm not really too worried about it but still, it could be something to fix). On the skills side, especially when it comes to a job hunt, I know my biggest gaps are accessibility and testing frameworks. Probably makes sense to tackle those next on my list of priorities.

So the plan: take a few online accessibility courses, and make the site better for all users. Most people won’t notice, but.. it's something I could talk about in an interview haha. IF I EVER GET MORE THAT IS.. sigh

Yeah the job search is a little slow. Oh well. In the meantime, I've got running to do! I was pretty good last week, but this week a couple rainy days and a couple visitors during the dry days knocked me back a little. (I need to figure out how to motivate myself in the morning, I could have gone every day haha)

So, time to get back on track. It's nice out today, a beautiful early-fall Saturday. See you on the trails!
